Retail replacement is for bricks and mortar jewelers with high overheads..... my prices are always much lower, and are determined by what I had to pay. Now retired, I am doing this to raise funds for charities I believe in.
This opal was appraised by an independent master valuer for $1,935 Canadian retail replacement value. (Steven Knight, GG,R.M.V.,CJA-CAP. ) .Unsigned appraisal included at no charge. If you want a signed ,sealed copy for insurance purposes, made out in your name, one can be sent to you for an additional $25.. Master valuers are THE experts on coloured stones, and signed sealed appraisals from them are accepted by insurance companies as verified retail replacement value. I get swamped with work and could not upload at time of listing , but, an unsigned copy of the appraisal of this gem can be uploaded upon request. Please ask if interested.... might take me a couple of days.... Opal is an alternate birthstone for those born in April and October. One of my favourite gems. My price is determined by what I had to pay. Some I have had for decades.
The value of my listings is in the gemstone. All my gems are true earth mined gems, not man made. Please take the time to read our listing: "Silver or Gold, what should I buy?" available on home page of my store.
Appraisal was made before the stone was placed in a topaz accented silver setting, custom made for the stone.
Set by students, expect minor flaws ( prongs too long, stone not exactly set square, little rough around edges etc. ) Most people do not mind....but if you do, the price is right and you can have a qualified jeweler rectify.
Many of our stones 'deserve' gold settings, but I prefer to set in silver. Most people cannot tell the difference between white gold and a setting coated in rhodium to prevent tarnishing ( rhodium is more expensive than gold)
You can always have set in gold in the future if you wish...Our prices are excellent for the gems alone, before setting accounted for.
Better gems and jewelry items are kept in bank vault for security purposes and retrieving an item can cause a slight shipping delay.
Supply and demand rules in true gem buying as in every other human investment.
Each earth mined gem is a unique work of art, unlike the lab produced stones that can be produced in unlimited quantities.
Some people will never understand why people buy an original work of art when they can buy a poster for next to nothing.
Earth mined gems are for those that do. Invest in quality.
