Zircons are a much misunderstood gemstone. The name zircon comes from the Persian word zargun, meaning “gold-hued.” Most people confuse it with cubic zirconia, a man made product of little value. Zircons are 7.5 on the mohs scale. Yellow zircons wholesale to the trade today for approx. $10 for a 1 cwt stone of very low grade quality to approx. $100 a one carat example of extra fine quality. Price can reach $200 per cwt. for larger stones. Blue zircons of very fine quality fetch $250 for 1 cwt. and up to $350 per cwt for larger specimens. The retail price will be several times that, depending on the retailers markup. My price is always much lower than the retail replacement figure used by brick and mortar stores: I bought my gems directly from the source, not through various middlemen. Huge difference,
